Today was my first day of group therapy. I was somewhat dreading it, because something like half an hour before I had to go I discovered on their website that they ‘encourage clients not to dwell on the past’ which made me go ’shit, it’s gonna be me vs a bunch of confrontational people who are in total denial of the roles parents play in their problems!’ However, I decided to go anyway to please my caseworker. It turns out, that they all fully accept the role of family and one of the clients has even deFOO’d. She is an older lady, in her late 50’s, and I thought she was really cool.
However those topics are not deeply explored in this group, they encourage you to seek an individual therapist for that. I think that’s fine.
I got free banana bread and coffee and two books from their library – “The Dance of Anger” by Harriet Lerner and “Feel the Fear and Do It Anyway” by Susan Jeffers. They look interesting, tomorrow I’ll try and read one of them in the park.
